All Members, Winter Residents, Family and Friends,

Greetings on this “Festive Federal Tax Filing Day” throughout the land!  It always amazes me that so many people wait to the very last minute to file their taxes.  It is not like they do not know that April 15th, is going to come around every year!  I know that some years their may be some extenudating circumstances, but most people just put it aside and procrastinate.  Then I thought to myself that so many people put off and put aside their faith in Jesus Christ.  Many people procrastinate serving God, or worshipping God, or volunteering at their church.

When I was preparing Aunt Helen’s homily I got to thinking about how my family, my mom, dad and Helen all had volunteering at the heart of their lives.  All of them volunteered at my home congregation for many, many years doing a wide variety of things often doing more than one thing at the same time.  We have some in our congregation who do more than one thing stretching themselves pretty thin.  My parents and Helen all had full time jobs, my mom and dad had two jobs each at times and still found time to volunteer to serve their Lord.  Perhaps that is why I in addition to my responsibilities as a Pastor, still find time to serve the community as the Lead Volunteer Chaplain for the Sheriff’s Office, serve on the Highlands County Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) Working Group (meeting Wednesday morning) the Lake Placid Christian Ministerial Association (meeting Thursday morning), a Mentor for 3 SMP Pastors and Vicarage Supervisor currently for Vicar Hull and up until a year or so ago 12 years as Circuit Visitor.  I have found that people can and will find the time when motivated to serve the Lord and allow God to guide and shape you for different responsibilities.  As we move forward here at Trinity Lutheran Church we need just “a few more in 2024” so we can all do “just a little more in 2024.”

This Saturday morning is an excellent opportunity as we are having a volunteer work day here at Trinity to get some mundane, maybe small projects accomplished.  Don’t be shy and waint for a personal invitation, come on out and join other sprucing up our campus this spring.

Please remember that on Saturday April 27th, 20224 starting at 9:30AM we will be hosting the first Heartland Circuit Convocation.  Please sign up or call the office if you plan on attending so we can have lunch available.  We pray that people from all our Circuit churches will be with us.  The topic is “Human Traficking in the Heartland.”  It promises to be an interesting time.

I have attached my sermon for this Sunday.  This Sunday is Good Shepherd Sunday and we look forward to see all of you in Worship.

Have a great week and make it great for someone else as well.
